Jefferson High School

The youngest of six and originally from El Salvador, Olga Maye attended Corona Elementary, Nimitz Middle, and Bell High Schools. She earned a bachelor’s, master’s, and teaching and administrative credentials from Cal State Dominguez Hills. She was a middle school math teacher for nearly 20 years.

“I am excited to be part of GEAR UP because I can be that support that my college counselor and older brother were to me in high school as I prepared for college.”

Sindy Ayala graduated from USC with bachelor’s degrees in non-governmental organizations and social change and economics.

“I love my job because it gives me the opportunity to uplift and empower my community. I can ensure those I serve have the knowledge and skills to achieve their goals and aspirations in life.”

Xochitl Gomez holds a bachelor’s in television, film, and media studies from Cal State L.A., with a goal of attending graduate school for school counseling.

“I love that I can be the big sister for all the students we work with. Every time I speak to a parent or student and they either get emotional or thankful for the help provided, I know how valuable this job really is.”
