It’s a wrap on fall 2021 Peer Mentor Summits, which saw students from GEAR UP 4 LA schools come together to explore their leadership skills, confidence, and the benefits of higher education.
Ninth- and 10th-grade students learned about the four systems of higher education, match and fit, A-G and high school graduation requirements, and explored their own stories through team building and dialogue circles.
“I chose to become a mentor because I felt this would be a big step in college readiness. I see that many factors in life require people to be leaders, so that’s something I wanted to always get some experience in.”
Cristian Vera, #GEARUPworks sophomore
GEAR UP 4 LA’s peer mentoring program empowers students to build college-going aspirations and enrollment while sharing college access information with peers.
“I want [students] to feel comfortable, be prepared, and know all the things to know to go to college,” said Ruby, a #GEARUPworks freshman. “I want them to feel great about themselves.”
