GEAR UP 4 LA was among several GEAR UPs from across California that had the privilege to meet with the Office of Sen. Alex Padilla during a virtual meeting on Sept. 22, when alumni, current students, and families shared their stories of how #GEARUPworks for them.
GEAR UPs across California are united in the mission to transform lives by empowering students and families to achieve their postsecondary and career goals.
Class of 2021 alumna Nyslai BolaƱos said: “For me and my family, GEAR UP means hope.”
As of 2020-21, 27 active GEAR UP grants serve over 55,000 students in California, preparing scholars and their families in communities across the state for success in higher education and career. It takes a village to open doors for current and future GEAR UP students and help them realize their fullest potential.
