New beginnings always bring fresh possibilities to help our students realize their full potential. As an Equity Warrior and fierce champion of GEAR UP 4 LA since 2008, I am honored and proud to be part of the #GEARUPworks team in my new capacity as Project Director as we work together to support success for all.
As the oldest of three siblings and the first in my family to attend college, I want to provide for GEAR UP youth what I wish I had when I was a kid in Nicaragua – access to postsecondary opportunities and a sense of belonging and empowerment we all, perhaps, wish we had at some point in our lives.
At GEAR UP, we aim to provide students and their families with programs that increase college and career success. Our long-term vision is to positively impact the lives of students and their families by catalyzing systemic change in education and career.
This is our North Star. This is what guides my yearning for strengthening and expanding our work and the urge to jointly remove as many barriers as possible from the paths our students walk.
Every day is another opportunity to join our school communities and partners in giving our all to the families we serve. I am excited for this new school year and new chapter for GU4LA and look forward to continuing to support our sophomores and juniors as they sprint toward graduation and beyond.
